The truth about reality

What is the truth? Is it reality or perception? Before you quickly jump to reality, define reality compared to the definition of perception. For instance, when you perceive something, it's true. That's how it happened as far as you know. Your mind doesn't go beyond what you perceive to be true. This is better explained by the "two sides to one story" phenomenon. The same event can be described by two different people in two completely different ways and they can both be true. From one person's perspective, the story happened one way. From the perspective of the other person, it happened another way. Which one is right? Is either one right? Is it a combination of the two? Are they both exactly right? I have been struggling so much lately with perception vs. reality, and it is bringing me to a point of distrusting myself. How do I know if what I think is the way it really is? What if my brain is telling me one thing but another thing is actually happening? How do I know who or what to believe? If I truly believe something from the back of my mind to the bottom of my heart, doesn't that make it true? I guess I'll never find out. There is no way to bring myself outside of my body to see what is going on from a strictly objective point of view. So what can I do? Do I trust my own perception, even when everyone around me is telling me it is not accurate? Afterall, if you can't trust yourself, who can you trust?
